What is happening to the NEOS Consortium?

The current centralized catalogue and user database will cease operation by the end of the summer 2025. Individual libraries are in the process of transitioning to single or shared use library systems, which means each library will have its own catalogue and list of borrowers. With its migration to Koha/Aspen, Sopchyshyn Library is now an independent member of the NEOS Consortium as will all NEOS libraries be by summer's end.

In the new NEOS configuration, the collections of NEOS libraries will remain available to Newman Borrowers. However, item requests will now require either an inter-library loan, or the need to borrow in-person. On both the SFL catalogue, and the NEOS Catalogues page, there are links to enable ILL requests from NEOS libraries. In addition, borrowers can also register in-person for a borrower account at any NEOS library. A Newman ID/Library card is required.

For more information, follow the links to Borrowing,  NEOS ILLs, and the NEOS Consortium webpage.

The Library's Migration to Koha/Aspen

On March 3, 2025, the Sopchyshyn Library will complete its migration to the Koha/Aspen ILS and Discovery System.

Koha/Aspen is an exciting addition to Sopchyshyn Library. Koha provides greater flexibility in managing library services and collections, while Aspen offers a more effective online search interface for borrowers.

In addition, the library catalogue is available on a mobile phone app. To download the app to your phone, click here for instructions.

The Franciscan Friary Mural
The library is home to the Franciscan Friary Mural originally installed in the friary's former location. It draws visitors to the college throughout the year, and is a work that generates much discussion. See and learn more about the Friary Mural.
